Counts of occurrence per depth in 神奈川県

Counts of occurrence per depth MD-T chart in 神奈川県 (Kanagawa Pref.) is shown as below graph,

The greatest one of this area is M7.9 Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923. One year ago of it, M6.8 of 90km was occurred in 1922. By the M7.9, the count of 1km increased rapidly by far from others. The silent terms of 1km became longer, and 20km curve overtook 1km curve with the steady increase. 10km/30km/40km curves are following behind 20km curve. Other curve's slopes became gentle with longer silent terms after the M7.9 in 1923.

  • 20km (orange)…The count is the 1st. There was the rapid increase by M7.9 of 20km named as Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923. As the increase was less than one of  1km, the count rank was 2nd or 3rd between 1923-1999. 20km curve has been increasing steadily. On the way, there was the rapid increase as a continuing earthquakes (max M5.5) in the eastern side of M't Fuji in 1976. The M7.9 in 1923 is the greatest of all depths.
  • 1km (red)…The count is the 2nd. There was the rapid increase by the M7.9 in 1923, and the count rank became the 1st. Then, the silent terms became longer and longer. The longest silent term was between 1981-1994. Since 2000 overtaken by 20km curve, the silent terms becomes shorter. Then, there was a continuing earthquakes caused by M9.0 Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011. There was other continuing volcanic earthquakes around Hakone in 2015. It seems it may be caused by the M9.0 in 2011. as caused by M9.0. The increase of 1km had been observed as of 1919 when Japan Meteorological Agency started the earthquake observation. The largest one of 1km is M7.3 in 1924.
  • 10km(yellow)…The count is the 3rd as same as 30km. Since the rapid increase caused by the M7.9 in 1923, 10km curve was following behind 20km curve except between 1931-1955. There was the rapid increase of 10km caused by M7.3 Northern Izu earthquake (Izu is outside of this area) . The largest one of 10km is M5.8 in 1923.
  • 30km(yellow green)…The count is the 3rd as same as 10km. 30km curve was following behind 20km curve with no overtaking. There was the rapid increase of 30km as a continuing earthquakes (max M5.6) in the eastern side of M't Fuji in 1988 as same as ones (max M5.5)  of 20km in 1976. By this increase, 30km curve overtook 10km curve temporary. The largest one of 10km is M5.9 in 1931.
  • 40km(green)…The count is the 5th. 40km curve was following behind 20km curve. But, after being overtaken by 30km around 1950, the silent terms of 40km became longer and longer. The longest silent term is between 1956-1966. The largest one of 40km is M6.5 in 1923.
  • 50km(green)…The count is the 6th. 40km curve was following behind 20km curve. The increase has stopped since 2009. The largest one of 50km is M4.9 in 1962.
  • 110km…The count is the 7th. The graph is omitted
  • 90km(brown)…The count is the 8th. In 1992, 90km curve was accelerated by M5.7 of 90km. 90km overtook 60km/70km curves after it. The largest one of 90km is M6.8 in 1922. The M6.8 seems to be one of the sign of M7.9 Great Kanto Earthquake of 20km because of the one year advanced occurrence before the M7.9.

Counts of occurrence per depth in 東京都

Counts of occurrence per depth in 東京都 (Tokyo)is shown as below graph,

1km curve increased rapidly by far from others. But, after it , the silent terms became longer and longer. The increase has stopped since 1981. During the stop, 20km/30km curve are increasing instead of 1km. 40km-80km curves are also increasing. But, the slopes are far gentler than one's of 20km/30km.

  • 20km (orange)…The count is the 1st. There was the rapid increase by M7.9 Great Est Earthquake in 1923. 60km curve has been increasing steadily. The largest one of 60km is M5.7 in 1980. The next major rapid increase was caused by M5.5 in 1976. The 3rd major occurrence was caused by M9.0 Great East Japan in 2011. By the 3rd increase, 20km curve overtook 1km curve. The largest one of 20km is M6.0 in 1983. The M6.0 was occurred 2 years later of the last occurrence of 1km.
  • 1km (red)…The count is the 2nd. There was the rapid increase by the M7.9 in 1923, and the count rank became the 1st. Then, the silent terms became longer and longer. The 2nd longest silent term was between 1961-1973, and now, the 1st longest silent term is extending since 1981. The largest one of 1km is M6.2 in 1923. The last count of 1km was 225 times. The same count of 20km was occurred in Mar/2011 only 4 days later. It seems the count might have suggested the occurrence of the M9.0 in Mar/2011.
  • 30km(yellow green)…The count is the 3rd. 30km curve was following 20km curve. But, the major rapid increase timings were different from one's of 20km curve. The major increases were both in 1923/1988. The one in 1988 was caused by M5.6. The M5.6 is the largest one of 30km. As these increases were far less than one's of 20km. The count of 30km is only half of one of 1km.
  • 40km(green)…The count is the 4th. After the rapid increase of 40km in 1923, 40km curve continued steadily, and the count became the 2nd in 1944. But, the silent term became longer. The longest silent term was between 1946-1953. After it, there has been no major increase. The count of 40km is only half of one of 30km. But, M6.3 of 40km in 1929 is the greatest one of all depths as same as M6.3s of 50km/60km.
  • 60km(blue)… The count is the 5th. 60km curve was accelerated by 2 times of M6.3 in 1926/1931. 60km was following behind 50km curve until the catching up with it. During it, 60km curve almost overlapped with 70km curve. But, after it, 60km closed with 50km. M6.3 of 60km is the greatest one of all depths as same as M6.3 of 40km/50km.
  • 50km(light blue)… The count is the 6th. 50km curve was following behind 40km curve. But, after the acceleration by M6.3 of 50km in 1923, there has been no major rapid increase. The M6.3 is the greatest one of all depths as same as ones of 40km / 60km. The count is almost same as ones of 60km/10km now.
  • 10km(yellow)…The count is the 7th. Until 1940, the count was the 2nd or so on. But, as there has been no major rapid increase after it, the counts become almost same as ones of 60km/50km. The largest one of 10km is M5.2 in 1923.

Counts of occurrence per depth in 房総半島南方沖

Counts of occurrence per depth in 房総半島南方沖 (South offshore Boso Peninsula)is shown as below graph,

Shallow earthquake's curves, especially 1km, has stopped with the long silent terms. On the other hand, 60km/50km curves has increased steadily. There were 2times major rapid increases. One may be caused by the eruption of Miyake-jima in 1962. The other might be caused by M7.2 offshore Hachizyo-jima in Feb-1972. Both islands are outside of this area.

  • 60km (blue)…The count is the 1st. 60km curve has been increasing steadily. The largest one of 60km is M5.7 in 1980.
  • 50km (light blue)…The count is the 2nd. 60km curve was following 50km until 1972. After the triple junction among 50km/10km/60km, 50km curve increased rapidly. Then, the silent terms became longer gradually. In 1992, 50km curve was overtaken by 60km curve. The largest one of 50km is M5.9 in 1920.
  • 70km (purple)…The count is the 3rd. 70km curve was following behind 50km curve, and increased rapidly after the quartet junction among 20km / 70km / 80km / 90km. But, 70km curve couldn't catch up with 50km curve. The largest one of 70km is M5.9 in 1975. The M5.9 of 70km was occurred when the count as 17 times caught up with the same count both with ones of 20km/90km.
  • 40km (green)…The count is the 4th. 40km curve was caught up with/overtaken by 50km curve. After M6.0 of 40km in 1953, 40km curve overtook and separate away from 50km curve once. But, in 1973, 40km was overtaken by 50km curve again. The largest one of 40km is M6.0 in 1953.
  • 80km (navy)…The count is the 5th. 80km curve was overtaken by 70km curve once in 1965. There was the rapid increase in 1972, and caught up with 70km curve again. But, after the longest silent term of 80km curve between 1983-1996, 80km curve was separated from 70km curve behind. The largest one of 80km is M5.9 in 1934.
  • 90km (brown)…The count is the 5th as same as 80km. 90km curve was overtaking and being overtaken with 80km curve. After the longest silent term of 90km between 1962-1972, the slope of 90km curve became steeper. But, it was less than 80km curve's one. On the other hand, 80km curve had the longest silent term in turn between 1983-1996. During it, 90km curve overtook 80km curve. Even though the reverse of counts again between them, the counts of them become the same now. The largest one of 90km is M5.3 in 2014.
  • 1km (red)……The count is the 7th. The 1st rapid increase was after M6.0 of 40km in 1953. The 2nd rapid increase was in 1962. It might be caused by the eruption of Miyake-jima in 1962. The 3rd rapid increase was right after the twin junction between 1km/10km since 1972. But, the occurrence stopped suddenly in 1976. Now, the longest silent term is continuing. The largest one of 1km is M5.6 in 1954.
  • 10km (yellow)…The count is the 8th. 10km was following behind 1km curve. In 1972, there was the rapid increase until the count becoming same with 1km's one. The 10km increase continued further. But, as 1km curve started increasing rapidly also, 10km curve couldn't overtake 1km curve. As same as 1km curve, the occurrence stopped suddenly in 1985. The largest one of 10km is M6.0 in 1956.
  • 20km(orange)…The count is the 9th. 20km curve was following behind 20km curve since 1949. 20km curve increased rapidly in 1972. As same as 1km/10km curve, the occurrence stopped suddenly in 1986. After the 2nd longest silent term between 1986-2008, the occurrence restarted. The largest one of 20km is M5.7 in 1964.
  • 30km(yellow green)…The count is the 10th. 30km curve entangled with 20km curve until 1972. By the rapid increase of 20km curve in 1972, 30km curve left behind from 20km curve. But, as there was the long silent term of 20km curve between 1986-2008, 30km curve overtook 20km curve. Though 30km curve had the similar long silent term between 1985-2001, it was shorter than one's of 20km. After the overtaking 20km curve, 30km curve stopped in 2011. In result, the count of 30km has been less than one's of 20km. The largest one of 10km is M5.7 in 1964. The largest one of 30km is M5.8 in 1954.

Counts of occurrence per depth in 千葉県南部 (South Chiba Pref.)is shown as below graph,

The count of 1km was the 1st by the aftershocks of M7.9 Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923 for 95 years. But, as there was many long silent terms like as between 1983 - 2005, 30km curve has overtaken it. During the gentle slope of 1km curve, 70km - 80km curves has increased steadily. Though 20km curve was keeping the low count rank for long years,  the count of 20km was accelerated with the slow slip of East offshore Chiba Pre. since 2008. It may be one of the sigh of M9.0 in 2011 as same as too long silent term of 1km.

  • 30km (yellow green)…The count is the 1st. There was the twin junction between 10km/30km just after M6.2 as one of the aftershocks of M7.9 Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923 (The epicenter is out of this area), and the rapid increase continued. Then, The count was increasing steady. After M9.0 Great East Japan Earthquake in M9.0, the curve slope was accelerated. The largest one of 30km is M5.6 in 1922.
  • 1km (red)…The count is the 2nd.There was the rapid increase after the M7.9 in 1923. Since 1946, the silent terms became longer and longer. The longest silent term is between 1983-2005. The last occurrence was in 2019. The largest one of 1km is M5.3 in 1924.
  • 20km (orange)…The count is the 3rd. There was the rapid increase as the aftershocks of the M7.9 in 1923. M6.2 of 20km is the largest one of them, and is the greatest one of all depths. After it, the silent terms became longer and longer. Then, the count of 20km was accelerated since 2008. According with Japan Meteorological Agency,  a series of earthquakes of East offshore Chiba Pre. accompanied with slow slip phenomenon as same as both in 1996/2002. It suggested these earthquakes may the sigh of the mass linkage of the M9.0 in 2011.
  • 70km(purple)…The count is the 4th. 70km curve has almost continued the steady increase since 1919. The longest silent term is between 1945-1950. The largest one of 70km is M5.8 in 2003.
  • 60km(blue) …The count is the 5th. 60km curve almost overlapped with 70km curve. The slope was accelerated by M6.1 of 60km in 1951. The M6.1 is the largest one of 60km.
  • 50km(light blue)…The count is the 6th. There was the rapid increases by both M6.2 of 20km in 1923 and M6.1 of 60km in 1951. After the M6.1, 50km/60km curves almost overlapped until 2011. But, the slope became less slightly than one's of 60km after 2011. The largest one of 50km is M6.0 in 1952.
  • 40km(green)…The count is the 7th. There was the rapid increases by the M6.2 of 20km in 1923. After it, 40km curve is following behind 50km curve. Recently, These curves become very close. The largest one of 40km is M5.9 in 1923.
  • 10km(yellow)…The count is the 8th. There was the rapid increases by the M6.2 of 20km in 1923. After it, the silent terms became longer and longer. The longest silent term is between 1953-1999 (for 46 years). .The largest one of 10km is M4.8 in 1923.

Counts of occurrence per depth in 千葉県北西部(Northwest Chiba Pref.)is shown as below graph,

The count of 1km was the 1st by the aftershocks of M7.9 Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923 for 27 years. But, as the silent terms became longer and longer after 1923, 30km-80km curves overtook 1km curves one after another. Especially, 40km-70km curves are still increasing steady. On the other hand, the counts of 10km-30km curves are keeping lower level by far.

    • 50km (light blue)…The count is the 1st. There was the rapid increase by M6.8 of 50km in 1921. Though 50km curve was overtaken by 1km curve in 1923, 50km curve continued the steady increase and has reversed the rank as the 1st since 1954. The M6.8 is the greatest one of all depths.
    • 70km(purple)…The count is the 2nd. 70km curve has continued the steady increase since 1919 before the M6.8 of 50km in 1921. Though 70km curve was overtaken by 50km/1km curves, 70km curve has been following behind 50km curve. In result, the count has became almost same as 50km. The largest one of 70km is M6.0 in 2005.
    • 60km(blue) …The count is the 3rd. 60km curve is following behind 70km curve. The count is less than 50km/70km now. The largest one of 60km is M6.7 in 1987.
    • 40km(green)…The count is the 4th. 40km curve was twisted with 50km curve until 1935. But, the increase became less and was also overtaken by 60km/70km curves. Since 2008, the increase has been accelerated and the count has become closing to 60km curve. The largest one of 40km is M5.9 in 1923.
    • 30km(yellow green) …The count is the 5th. 30km curve was following behind 40km curve. But, there were many long silent terms between 1960-1997. The longest one is between 1973-1978. Since 1998, 30km curve has been accelerated and the count has overtaken 80km curve. The largest one of 30km is M5.6 in 1922.
    • 80km(navy) …The count is the 6th.80km curve was following behind 60km curve. But, since it had caught up with 40km curve in 1998, the slope became gentle. In result, 80km curve has overtaken by 30km curve recently. The largest one of 80km is M6.3 in 1956.
    • 1km(red)…The count is the 7th. There was the rapid increase by the aftershocks of M7.9 Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923 (The epicenter is out of this area), and the count rank became the 1st by far. But, the silent term was becoming longer and longer. The longest silent term is between 1983-2000. As it stands now, the occurrence has been stopping 2015. The largest one of 1km is M6.0 in 1924.
    • 20km(orange)… The count is the 8th. Since being overtaken by 30km curve in 1932, the silent term was becoming longer and longer. The longest silent term is between 1983-1998 (It overlapped with 1km's one between 1983-2000 ).  There were 2 times step up both in 2008/2011. No need to say, the stepping up in 2011 was caused by M9.0. The other might be one of signs of M9.0. The largest one of 20km is M5.6 in 1923.
    • 10km(yellow)… The count is the 9th. 10km curve almost overlapped with 20km curve until 1958. But, since being overtaken by 20km curve in the year, the silent terms became longer.  The longest silent term is between 1960-1984. It seems to be switched with ones of 1km/20km curves started in 1983. The largest one of 10km is M5.2 in 1923.

Counts of occurrence per depth in 千葉県北東部

Counts of occurrence per depth in 千葉県北東部(Northeast Chiba Pref.))  is shown as below graph,

The count of 1km was the 1st before the longest silent term between 1983-2011. It jumped up before and after M7.9 Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923. By the M7.9, 10km/20km curves jumped up. But, less than ones of 30km-50km. On addition to it, 10km/20km had the longest silent terms 8 years/13 years before M9.0 Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011. These long silent terms of 1km-20km seems to be the sign of the M9.0. As the count of 1km stopped in 2012, 50km-30km are competing the 1st rank of the counts now.

    • 30km (yellow green)…The count is the 1st. There was the rapid increase by M6.9 as the aftershocks of M7.9 Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923. Then, 30km curve kept the steep slope until the longest silent term between 1988-1992. After it, 30km curve was accelerated since 1998. Furthermore, the curve was accelerated by the aftershocks of M9.0 Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011. Recently, there was the rapid increase by M6.2. The largest one of 50km is M6.9 in 1923. The M6.9 is also the greatest one of all depths.
    • 40km(green)…The count is the 2nd. There was the rapid increase by the M6.9 of 30km as same as 50km in 1923. There was also the rapid increase by the aftershocks of M9.0 as same as 30km in 2011. 30km/40km curves are still competing the 1st each other. The largest one of 50km is M5.7 in 1956.
    • 50km(light blue) …The count is the 3rd. There were rapid increases by both the M6.9 of 30km in 1923 and the aftershocks of M9.0 in 2011 as same as 30km/40km. Furthermore, there was the rapid increase by M6.8 of 50km in 1921 before the M7.9 Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923. The M6.8 is the largest one of 50km.
    • 10km(yellow)…The count is the 4th. There was also the rapid increase by the M6.9 of 30km as same as 30km/40km/50km in 1923. But, the increased count of 10km was less than them. On addition to it, there was the longest silent term between 1984-2003. Though there was the rapid increase by the M9.0. after the longest term, too late to recover the delay from 30km/40km/50km. The largest one of 10km is M6.1 in 2011.
    • 1km(red)…The count is the 5th. There was not only the rapid increase by the M6.9 of 30km after the M7.9 Great Kanto Earthquake in Sep/1923, but also the rapid increase in Jan/1923. Maybe for that reason, the count rank was the 1st  after the M7.9 for many years. As there was the longest silent term between 1983-2011, the rank went down. The largest one of 1km is M6.0 in 1924. The last occurrence was in 2012.
    • 20km(orange)… The count is the 6th. 20km curve was following behind 10km curve. On addition to it, there was the longest silent term between 1988 - 1998. Though there was the rapid increase by the M9.0 in 2011, less than ones of 10km.
